Catan is a vary famous board-game. The goal is to get 10 points. 1 point for a settlement, 2 for a city, 2 for the longest road, 2 for the best army… During the game you collect resources that have been attributed to you following every dice roll. With these resources you build cities and roads that will get you to victory. You can also trade your resources with the others players, trade with the bank, or use some special cards. Even though my boss told me he won most of his games, I found the game particularly difficult, but it is its charm.

Fun : ★★★★★★★★★☆

I already spent 7 hours on this game, and I only played 6 games. The game can be play in mode turbo, that I recommand after 2 games. All is very well presented, and you’ll be playing 5 seconds after pressing the game icon. One of my best iPhone game with Peggle.

Stratergery is a variant of the Risk board-game with different options to set it up  as you like. Nothing new, but you’ll be playing four seconds after pressing on the “desktop” icon, and it’s probably one of the most important feature of any game. The A.I. starts to be quite good at hard level and you can play on very large maps, even though it’s bit annoying to move around on the small iPhone screen. I prefer to play on medium maps.

Fun : ★★★★★★★★½☆

I spent about 4 hours on this game, it is not ready to leave my iPhone. I love the simple design, and the fact to be able to have a quick game whenever I can.

Flight Control and Doodle Jump, same story

iPhone games No Comments »

Two of the most popular iPhone games, trusting the App Store top 10 regularly. In Flight Control you have to draw plane directions in order to land the planes. In Doodle Jump you have to tilt the iPhone in order to jump on clouds. Both of these games have the same objective, reach the highest score. They can be very addictive when you compete with your friends. They are nicely done, and very accurate in their controls. However in front of “no chance to beat” high scores, I felt discourage to play them, not seeing really any joy to try. It would have been better to make you compete only with people next to you, and only show national and international high score once you can compete with them.

Fun : ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆

I spent about 5 hours on Flight Control trying to beat three of my friends,  then everybody gave up when we saw that our leader spent a week to reach his best score (you can pause the game). I play it time to time now, to see how far I still am from my friend best score. I’ve played Doodle Jump 20 minutes since I bought it three weeks ago. At the right moment, I would pay $1 for Flight Control and nothing for Doodle Jump.

I downloaded this game for free and paid for the second level inside the game. There is three other levels than you can buy. You can also buy the game in once. Your objective is to bring few little Rolando circles to a door. The Rolandos can jump and activate different mechanisms. To make them move you tilt the iPhone. That’s the main reason I didn’t like the game that much. Tilting is ok for racing game but here I felt a bit disturbed by tilting the iPhone too much. Overall the game pace was too slow for me. However some of the vocal musics are good, and visuals are ok. It’s been a big improvement compare to Rolando 1 that I didn’t appreciate, but it’s still not my favorite ice-cream.

Fun : ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆

I spent maximum 2 hours to finish the two first levels and I will probably never play it again. At this right moment, I would not buy it.

When you buy this game, it comes with three levels and you can buy two others for AU$1 each. First I have to say I don’t like when a game comes incomplete.
Otherwise this is a basic tower defense game. So you have to place tower on the field to destroy enemies. If an enemy reach the other side of the field you lose one of your 20 life points. It’s not ugly, speedy enough, and you win at the 100th wave. For sure, you’ll have fun with it.

Fun : ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

I spent at least 6 hours on it. I didn’t play the medium and hard level, it’s probably very difficult. I like to try them once every three month. I kept the game on my iPhone. At this right moment, I would not pay more than 4 bucks for it.

That’s the PSP trailer but on iPhone it looks exactly like this video.

Plants versus zombies

Waves of zombies arrive in straight lines. If they reach your house, game over. To stop them, you plant plants :) They can be attacking plants, defensive plants or money plants. There is a lot of different plants and different zombies. The game is nicely animated, the music is pleasant and I had lots of fun to stop the zombies. There is a bit of humour, and overall the game is quite easy. I’ve been losing two times maximum before finishing the game. Losing is frustating in this game, so I appreciate that the level is not too difficult. A perfect popcorn game, you play, have fun and pass to something else.

Fun : ★★★★★★★½☆☆

I spent easily 5 hours on it. I’m not sure I will ever replay this game, since I uninstalled it. At this right moment, I would pay 6 dollars for it.

In this word game you have to make a word from a list of random letters. All letters must be next to each other to form a word. When you find a word, the letters disappears, and new ones fall from the top of the screen. Sometimes a falling letter is on fire. If ever this letter reach the bottom of the screen, game over.

The game gives you enough time to find a word, and a dictionary explains some of them. As English is not my mother tongue, it is good to me. Some of the three letters words seems a bit strange to me, and from AppStore reviews you can understand that some four letters words are not recognized but majority of people seems happy. I find this game quite relaxing.

Fun : ★★★★★★½☆☆☆

I spent about three hours on it. I didn’t go very far but I like to replay a game every 3 months. I still keep it on my iPhone. At this right moment, I would pay 4 dollars for it, not more.

This game is the definition of addictive. I gave it to my sister, she played a hour on it. Her boyfriend complained that it looked stupid. He took the iPhone and spent the night on it, singing the Ode of joy every-time he finished a level. The goal of this game is to hit all the orange peggles with 10 balls. Once done, the level is finished. Hitting a green ball gives you super power to make easier hits. Very simple rules, and very accurate shots make the play enjoyable. You will surprise yourself to try to do long shot rewarding great points. Fun, fun, fun…

Fun : ★★★★★★★★★½

I spent countless hours of Peggle. I finished it straight in a week or two. Then I played the challenges which are lots harder. I’m still playing them time to time, maybe once every 40 days. Easily in the top three apps I would replay. At this right moment, I would pay AU$8 bucks for it, maybe more.

PS3 version trailer, just a bit better than the iPhone version but you got the idea!

This game version is an improvement of a Nintendo DS game. It’s an action/racing game. You see your character/car from the sky. Your goal is to finish many missions as killing people, or selling drugs. Moral put on the side, it’s quite entertaining and it performs well on an iPhone 3G.
I liked the soundtracks and the fact that I could add my own soundtracks. I also could feel that programmers spent a lot of time on details to make the city alive.

Fun : ★★★★★★★★☆☆

With more than 8 hours played with it, it’s definitively one of the game I played the most on my iPhone. However since I bought a PS3, I didn’t replay it that much. At this right moment, I would pay AU$8 for it, not more.
